Hi Duncan, I find I have the same problem:-( No one there when I've logged on either. Perhaps we should just say that this Friday 26th everyone should be there at a certain time. What'd think?

Hi Di, Good Idea I've tried twice with the same result as You and Duncan. Bo interesting to find some of the very old online. I've tried to persuade Mr. Lacklison to at least comment on messages. I know he has a computer - he told me so.
With a lot of luck .. Jürgen

Hello fellow ex-scholars. I found this site recently but although there are quite a number of people on here I did not see any names I remembered (except teachers), so I thought try chat, maybe someone will turn up ... all I got was an empty room .... after ten attempts on Tuesday and the same on friday I gave up ... pity really but with thousands of ex-pupils you'd have thought that there would always be someone around to chat to, even from a different time period.

Les

ps Hans Jürgen you jogged my memory, now I remember that my PE teacher was Mr Lacklison ... it was long ago ... I wonder if he'd still remember me

Only Di and myself in the chat room yesterday and that fairly late. Luckily I gave it a retry before intending to give up. Les I see you were 2nd. year in 65 I was 3rd and left that year for Catterick. So you must have known Ernest Martinez, Phil Bryant Football goalie, Dennis Duggan perhaps even me known as Hans Cilvert. Look at our photos you may recognise some peole Alan Bouhey has a class photo of 63/64 1st/2nd years? and I have one of 3 C. Mr. Lacklison has an excellent memory and if you won the Cross Country he'll surely remember those involved.
When I left the first trial runs over 3? miles or less were started gooing out of school left Hostert up along the back of the old football fiel (some kind of lane and down Eschenrath and back into School - we had no cc team at that time. I did sprint and football with bryant and duuggan for Canterbury. Another footballer was Rafferty.
Best of luck, but meagre chances to get the old online. Jürgen

That is most annoying, tony. Why not build one yourself with reliable components. Bundles compreising of Mainboard (ASUS is a good one) CPU, Intel Dual Core or Core to Duo but not the E2200 series E5200 (unless you are a gamer) or Athlon Dual Core.with Fan and perhaps RAM 2x 2 GB (depends on system 32 or 64 bit. Hard drive (Maindrive Samsung or Seagate. And you should have many years pleasure.look on www. serhend.de. Don't take an ECS Board which is the cheepest combo. Saves cash instead of a new one where you don't know what you're getting.
You have your OS and burner no more really needed and Grafic card generally on-board.
Be nice to see you online next time
Regards Jürgen

Tony - get an Apple Mac and leave your problems behind you - you'll need to sell a kidney mind you to pay for it - your liver is worthless!

I have 2 Apple Macs(MacBookPro and iMac24).In 2005, I forced my parents to by a MacMini as I was fed up of flying over to sort their PC out. The MacMini they have has crashed 3 times in 4 years and has been no problem, they even installed it themselves.Macs are a little more expensive but don't need any kind of upgrading and I look at them as having to be replaced every 4 years instead of 2 so they may even work out cheaper in the long run.

As long as the crashes are only due to the OS or main drive and not caused by a damaged main board, memory module or CPU I agree that the "repair" is no problem (clean install of the OS isn't worth talking about one hour after format and it's running)I don't know what the Mac 2,4 costs in UK, in Germany around 1500€ with Leopard OS. Then the software you'd need a compatible office program to Microsoft Office, if everything you have is filed as word 2007,Excel 2007; you need extra Anti Virus or Internet securities. That really sums up to quite a package so I must say Dave's quite right with his kidney-remark. Good, a friend of mine was in Peru and Ecuador and bought an Apple Mac in Mexico I, think (about a year ago.) He's had no problems with it so far but hasn't compatible programs for his Microsoft Office files and especially Outlook EMails and 180 € for that is too expensive so I set up an an MSI or Fujitsu Notebook with 2.2 GHz dual Core CPU which cost 349,-€ without OS. And he's had no problems with that one either and it's online all day. He has an online shop.Tony must find the problem first and then decide what is best or cheapest. If it is really a total write-off then all options are open for a change to apple. Dave must know what he wants, and what he's prepared to invest.
Regards and fingers crossed he gets it running. We know he has all Microsoft software.

I do things with Unix so the Mac integrates easily into my work environment. The mail works OK with MS servers and the only thing that doesn't really do well are the calendar/meetings aspects.I have MS Office for MacOS which has most of what MS Office has with the exception of Visio.OpenOffice works well but there are always a few compatibility problems with Word and Excel. I also use VMWare and run a Virtual version of XP or it can be run natively with Bootcamp.Bought my iMac24 for 1900 Euros in Duesseldorf in December and I think the prices in the UK around then shot up to reflect the weak pound. There are dealers of refurbished Macs with guarantees and it is rumoured that when they have a lot of Macs for sale it means that Apple have just offloaded the last of the previous model to keep the prices up.

Try Sync with MobileMe for your diary/calendars etc. I sync 2 x iPhones, 1 x Mac and a Windows laptop with it and it works great. There is also another 20Gb of external backup to be had as part of the package. It costs about £60 a year. My emails also get pushed to all four so I'm covered for comms wherever I am. I was paying £5 a month for my Blackberry so the costs are about the same. My Blackberry's are going to be on eBay soon as the iPhone's are much better - I just got the new 32Gb 3G S model and it's the business. I'm just waiting for Steve Job to get back to work and then hopefully the will launch the Mac Tablet Notebook - I'll be doing without both kidneys for that I think!

Slightly off the topic - what you putting your Blackberry up for Dave? I've got an old style brick on O2 pay as you go so it might not work with it anyway.

Di - I'll sort out what I doing with my Blackberries over the weekend and email you re price etc if you are interested.

Colin - how about a KSA For Sale page on the website and we Kenties can display our goods and offer discounts to each other. My other school (pre-Kent) does that and has Mechanics offering servicing, Financial Advisers offering to lose you all your money for a fee (that's me), Children's Entertainers (well dodgy that one as I know the chap) etc. For example, when was the last time you had your mortgage reviewed? Did you go to your current bank/society and look at there products only. Were you frightened to use a broker due to the fee? You could ring me and I've a computer system that covers all mortgages in the land - tell you what is available and not charge you a fee - if you then wanted me (my company) to arrange it for you then that's how we would get paid. REMEMBER ALL THE WARNINGS - YOU COULD LOSE YOUR HOUSE IF YOU DON'T PAY BLAH BLAH BLAH. THIS IS NOT ADVICE BLAH BLAH BLAH.
