Subject: Tonbridge 6th Form Photo Maggie: I've always been bad with names (just moved around far too much) but do recall Sheila. I like the way Mike P has his eyes closed....typical! One or two of those people had the one-off experience of the Dusseldorf commute to go to go to gigs at the Philips Halle or Rundhalle (?). We occasionally had overnight guests at our house - my parents loved it as they were really into the hospitality thing. Do you recall a Genesis concert - there seemed to be a big Kentie presence in the crowd - which was so riveting, that a mini-riot (OK, scuffle) amongst some German youths at the back went on almost unnoticed. It would be good to hear about the experiences of those that came to visit the city from time to time. 21-Aug-2009 09:54:02

Subject: RE: Tonbridge 6th Form Photo Remember it well Alan. Spent most of the gig right at front of stage transfixed, Peter Gabriel a bit of a hero of mine(amongst many) at the time. So many good bands, Pink Floyd, Santana, etc. too many to mention Did you get to see the Stones in Essen? Didn't we all go round to Mike Philps' place to listen to Tubular Bells when it first came out? Any excuse for lounging about. 22-Aug-2009 10:54:50

Subject: RE: Tonbridge 6th Form Photo I had a ticket earmarked for the Stones concert (Autumn 73 ?) but recall having to return to the UK either (wedding or funeral) and missed out. One of those things where you really feel left out. My induction to concerts was King Crimson - ears rang for days after. As a student in Leicester carried-on the tradition and must have seen most of the iconic British bands/musicians of the 70s, but probably wouldn't have without the earlier experience in Germany. 28-Aug-2009 08:57:31

Subject: RE: Tonbridge 6th Form Photo I was at that Genesis gig (with Anita Presbury and Ralph Baber of Dusseldorf among others. Also saw the Trick of the Tail incarnation of Genesis there with Bill Bruford on drums - we hung around the back of the Philippshalle and got Phil Collins autograph. Also saw Roxy Music there among others. 15-Nov-2010 22:06:53

Subject: RE: Tonbridge 6th Form Photo I did go and see thin Lizzy in Dusseldorf. who were backing......Bachman Turner Overdrive. History has not been kind to the one hit wonder group, and Thin Lizzy were better. 05-Dec-2010 00:15:46
