Oh, yeh...I forgot about him (Demis Roussos), then of course there was Vicky Leandros who won the Eurovision Song Contest in about 1972 with "Apres Toi". Does anyone remember the Dutch duo called Mouth and MacNeil (man and woman duo...he looked like Giant Haystacks the wrestler, and she looked a cross between Agnetha from Abba and Diane Lee from Peters and Lee). I do remember, when we had assemblies at Kent School, there always seemed to be two 5th. or 6th. formers reading something out they'd written, or singing, with the guy playing a guitar (remember those assemblies)??? P.E was always quite a challenge, especially when it was outdoors, and in the winter, when the muddy field had frozen !!!

Who can forget "Immer Wieder Sonntag" by Cindy & Bert ??? That title alone just took me back to Germany. How about "Rose Garden" by Lynn Anderson and "Jack-in-theBox" by Clodagh Rogers ??? Blimey they age is really coming through now !!! At least I still have all my own teeth, a full head of mostly black hair, and still weigh under 13 stone (not bad for 49).

You know what ??? The music today doeswn't really interest me. I think I started losing interest in the 1980's. I liked the New Romantics (Adam Ant, Spandau Ballet, Haircut 100 etc.), and New Wave, but today's music is pretty repetative...blimey I'm sounding like an old fart now !!! Just listening to Maggie May by Rod Stewart (next up is Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves by Cher...remember that one from Germany ??? Oh, those were the days (kids today really haven't lived). I always likened Kent School to a St. Trinians type establishment...it was always easy to get away with a great deal because the place was so big, and you could always "get conveniently lost" in a top floor corridor or somewhere.

Mo...I think that the 70's were great, especially the Glam Rock stuff. My sister got me into Marc Bolan, who I still like and have loads of his CD's. I just bought a Slade Greatest Hits, last Saturday which is fab.I also think that the early 70's were left over from the hippy era, and even we had long hair and flairs (remember those tank tops, and the shirts/blouses with collars the size of aircraft wings); remember also the suede boots you could buy in Germany with the tassles on them ??? What about when you used to split the side of your jeans at the ankle and sew in a piece of material to make the flares even larger !!! And those German bikes that had the hinge in the m iddle of the frame so that you could fold them in half...oh, and Jacko roller skates with the red leather bits at the fron that used to tie up like shoes??? I've just been thinking about that Paul McCartney song "Mary Had a Little Lamb", which takes me back to the swimming pool at Wildenrath. Do you remember watching The Partridge Family on TV in Germany ? I have a David Cassidy Greatest Hits CD...now THAT's SAD, isn't it ??? All for now, so get your thinking caps on and transport yourselves back to Kent School in an instant, with the power of music !!! It doesn't cost anything, and is cheaper than booking a flight there (ha, ha). Regards to all Kenties, David.

Hiya Lynne...I'm not laughing, guess what??? I liked Middle of The Road, too...in fact I had two of their albums (seriously) on cassette tape, which I ALWAYS played on one of those hand held portable cassette players (that took about four of those giant round batteries). I remember getting that cassette player for my 12th. birthday, from the NAAFI at RAF Wildenrath, I was chuffed to bits with it, as they were the i-pods of the day, weren't they ??? I also remember "Sugar Me" by Lyndsey De Paul, and the Eurovision winner 1971(by Monaco)called "Un Banc, Une Arbre, Une Rue" by Severine...and no-less "Rose Garden" by Lynne Anderson. I've been listening to all these songs on You Tube, recently, and the memories came flooding back, (just type in the name of the song or artist and a small video square comes up, which if you click on it, it plays a piece of film with the artist singing (it's fab). I DID listen to loads of Middle of The Road stuff that way...what a saddo !!! What house where you in Lynne ? I was in Rochester, so was my sister Diane (she was a year older than me). I recently had my Kent School photo posted on the website...have you seen it ? Perhaps you might remember me from that ? I also sent the school uniform list to the webmaster, which is also on the website...how restrictive was that !!! Especially since the fabric of the early 70's was NYLON !!! All for now, best wishes, David. Stay Happy & Healthy !!!

On a non-musical note, on the way to work in Hilden I go past one of those red shale pitches that a lot of local German football clubs had. Does anyone remember playing on those?I remember that they were usually OK(slide tackles were out) but when it rained of being frightened to head the ball as it came down usually covered in grit.Rainy days also meant that white socks and shorts were stained pink even after a wash or two.

I remeber playing football at Kent School, and especially during the winter (our strip was a yellow shirt with a black collar-type thing and black cuffs; black shorts and yellow socks - for Rochester House). Whenever I forgot my boots, I had to play in plimpsoles, and when the pitch was frozen, and you kicked one of those deep-frozen mud ridges on the pitch it was agony !!! I played rugby a few times, too, but didn't like it much as I too afraid of having my face re-arranged - particularly since there were a couple of very large guys on the opposing side who didn't think twice about coming after whoever had the ball. I preferred athletics instead, and swimming at Rheindahlen Pool. Ahhhh, those were the days !!!

Hi Tony, Hilden is just outside Duesseldorf, I played on those pitches in Erkelenz,Soltau and Gerderath and that was just home games. I remember you from 1st-3rd year, I was in Canterbury. A few years ago(2004) I managed to meet up with Les Turner and Bob Fordyce in Saltburn for a dinner and at least 2 pints. Next time I will meet Les will probably be at the next reunion, when?where ever that is.

Hi Tony, you will probably remember me when we meet again.I used to hang around with Kurt Hoyte and Neil Hensman in years 1 and 2 although we were all part of that big group that seemed be play football every lunchtime on the back pitches or next to the barns if we got kicked off. Your name was mentioned when I met Les back in 2003 as one of those people we could best remember along with Mark Crosland. When I went to Kent we lived at Wildenrath(74-77), in 77 I moved to Soest and went to WBS at Hamm I only lived in England during the 80s and have spent most of the time since then in Switzerland or Germany.
