Subject: RAF Wildenrath/Kent School

I went to Kent School from 1983-1986,before I moved to Scotland (much to my dismay)! I lived in 31 Heron Road, Wildenrath have two brothers Alexander and Michael. All these years I must say I had very fond memories of the people I knew. Now, I am home again, back in Germany and was sad to find there isn't much left of Raf Wildenrath and Kent School is falling appart. It's a bit like memories they fade, but my time there were the best as a child I miss my friends though a good 22 years have passed. This summer I will be visiting Wildenrath/Kent School to take photos and remember. If anyone remembers me? I would be pleased to hear from you.

Hi Stephenie...just a quick message. Although I don't know you, I read your message with interest. I lived at RAF Wildenrath from 1971 to 1973, and went to Kent School with my sister, Diane, during those years, too. Before Wildenrath, I lived at RAF Geilenkirchen for six months. Anyway, I totally agree with you about Kent School...it seems to have cast its enigmatic spell on all who have been associated with the place. I went to eleven schools during my dad's time in the RAF, and I can quite honestly say that Kent School was THE best school I attended. I have extremeely fond memories of the place, and you know what? I often have dreams about the school!!! Such is its power. I'm now 47, and have been back to Germany about seven or eight times since 1973 (I even lived in Hagen for three months in 1993), however I haven't maneged to re-visit Kent School, although one day I feel I MUST go back, to lay a few personal ghosts to rest.

Yehh...I understand I dream of the School too, (I attended four different Schools whilst my Step-dad was stationed in Germany). I went first to Merlin School on camp in Wildenrath then to Kent School. Its as if all my childhood memories only have a connection with my time there, the Cinema with the Saturday Mata nays. the swimming pool every Summer, driving there with my Brother and friends on our bikes. Sneaking out of camp through the Hole behind the woods at Heron Road.....there's so much I still think of, dream of today. I remember the rumours that went around the School that its haunted, and of course dark corridor who can forget that. I live in NRW Germany now, since 1996 and I think a lot about that old crumbling place, its only 1 hour drive away from here..... I know I will often drive there and refresh my memories show all my life's stations to my own Kiddies (my daughter 12 said it looks really creepy)its nice to read others think of Kent School and feel the way I do -take care Steph

This is bizarre!! My father was based at Wildenwrath from 1979 to 1982 and I went to Merlin School and then to Kent. I didn't live on Wildenwrath tho, but just outside in the flats at Erkelenz. I remember the dark corridor and all the stories and could of sworn I heard the White Lady!!!

This really is a blast from the past, and only found this site in passing following a random conversation with a collegue that was born at Kent when it used to be a hospital!!! It looks quite sad now and it was a great building steeped in history!!! What a shame!! Would love to hear from anyone that may know me, I was in the first year 1980/1981 and half way through the second year before my Dad was posted back to the UK!!

Would be great to compare stories!!

I was on a trip to France - but can not place the faces 20 years is a long time. Maybe it wasn`t the same trip? There was a hole in the fence by Heron Road we used it a lot to leave camp. there was the GSO across from my Bungalow where you could eat chips etc. I was (still am ) Blond, had really long hair then. Glasses and had two brothers Alex the year under me at Kent School and my older brother who went to a German school. I was like the only German girl who went to Kent school. My nick was Steph then, my German pals say steffi here. All My pictures of my past life went lost with the death of my mother 10 years ago. I will be in kilmarnock this July to visit for a week ( still living 1 hours drive from Wilders in Essen). Maybe there is a chance that there are still pictures of me then I'll send a few over maybe you'll recognize me? Wishing you a really great Easter. Steph

I read with pleasure about others memories of Gielenkirchen and Wildenrath. We lived at 61OMQ Wildenrath from 68-72. However, I was not fortunate to go to Kent I was sent back to England and encarcerated in an English boarding school for 7 years. But loved flying home on the Lollipop special planes from Gatwick God those poor Pilots...
Anyone remember Susan, Micahel Cook or Karen Allsopp, Helen White etc

Dear Stephanie,

I have just logged onto the Kent School wedsite and read the message from my brother David.

I fondly remember Kent School, it's history, it's aura and the fun i had there. I now work in an old Hospital in Colchester, Essex, that often reminds me of Kent School, the out of bounds areas, the ghostly goings on, the history, but this time on a much smaller scale.

I don't know you, but hope you may one day reply back.

Happy Days

Dear Diane, just read your thread and noticed you are nursing at I guess' Essex Co'
here in Col. I live here in Col in Mile End and went to kent School in 1975 -78 and lived at Wilders. Did you live on Wilders or in surrounding area?Nice to know folk from my old school are here in Col as I don't have old school buds around here unlike my mates.I have tried to explain the old schools appearance and size and how sad that it had become derelict. My kids are the age I was then at school so it is more of a memory trip for me these days, recalling all the teeen antics we got up to. Love to hear back from you.Regards Angie.
