Subject: RE: Advice to Christine Hi, just a few comments as I was almost 16 when my mother wanted to go back to Germany as dad had been demobbed '66. We were in Dorset at the time - dad's home place where he had a job as a mechanic. No one can decide for another. looking at your time at Kent school '73 puts you into your 50ties (I was there 63 until 65) so the question of employment is one factor. Or, if you and your husband are independent, things could turn out a little easier. We can't close our eyes to the world economic situation, and certainly economy won't work on Services alone - some so- called "experts" haven't done their homework at all and we have the present result. Others can clean the mess. In March you want to visit Germany - try to combine that with a UK visit and look around with the eyes of an immigrant. 07-Feb-2009 08:10:07

Subject: RE: Advice to Christine Harrogate is an expensive area but the time to move if you are trading UP is in a falling property price market - there are some good deals available for property in and around Harrogate - however, if you need a mortgage then in the current climate you will need proof of earnings and a large deposit (as I believe the last lender that accepted 'Self-Cert' has just withdrawn from that market). Harrogate as you know has a footy team, as does Northallerton in some division or another - Leeds Utd are also in the 19th Division and if you turn up early enough on a Saturday at Ellend Road you can sometimes get a game!! The UK is no different to anywhere else during the global down-turn - expect you will need to have your heating on! The Government is as much use as a one-legged man in an arse kicking competition so if you can put up with Toad and Badger stealing from you EVERY day then welcome home. I don't mind paying tax - I just hate to see the money wasted! Personaly, I would not come home at the moment unless you can guarantee a roof and employment - if your lad is wanting to go to University then I suggest one or both of you consider selling a kidney as it ain't cheap -and there is no guarantee of graduate employment at the end of it due to company downsizing. I hope this doesn't appear to gloomy but I believe it to be realistic in today's NewLie (New Labour) fucked up country that was once Great Britain. 08-Feb-2009 10:04:11
