Subject: Punishments back in the good old days

Miss Hallem gave the whole class the punishment of writing an essay with each word beginning with the same letter. So each class member had a different letter. I got issued with the letter A. I don't remeber if anyone got a Q or Z. Ithink mine started of with "The Afroamerican ambassador for argentina arrived at Amsterdam Airport.....Anyone else subjected to this torture?
I noticed a reference to Mr Davies who I think tried to teach us French - in a Britisg school in germany? His cruel streak was to offer you an opal fruit and then wallop you with a rule for eating in class. Oh what fun!
Does anyone remember Miss Lakeland - I cant remember what she taught but she always had my attention!

We were once taken on a 'nature walk' through the little wood outside Deal House to see what was 'growing' there. We had to pick up all the bottles that had been thrown from the 6th form dorm corridor into the wood - Myers Rum appears to have been a favourite. Can't remember the name of the teacher who took us on this walk - small guy, name began with a B !!!!

You're right he did teach Geography so who wasted their time trying to teach me French. I remember Mr Cook doing his best to confound me with the joys of algebra - something to this day I have not once thought might be useful in my everyday life - and if you have an example keep it to yourself.

Cheers Alan

Alan, as far as I can remember Mr. Davies taught both history and geography, was Canterbury's house master and a real soccer freak when we (his house) played. I'm an old Canterbury Footbball Team Boy (7). He did, however, always insist on his "Sir". He once held a lesson in his university gown - it was strange to see him in that black garment.
I had an example for your algebra, but I'll keep it to myself. Cook was your teacher - well we had Cork for a while and then I don't know the name of his "follower" Must have been Cook, then. Having had French puts you either into A or B Stream as you didn't know what class you were in regards to your 63 photo. How "young are you? or year It wasn't 2 B or 2A because or 3rd year as that was my stream with 3C.
Would be interesting to know who had to line up for the cane and who gave it Mr. Ford? can't imagine Mr. Ford or Mr. Myhill capable of such harsh and brutal (martial) punishment, one I can think of ..)
I got around that my entire school life.
cheers Jürgen
