Mark - I was in 2M1 - our tutor was John Tooke who used ot get out his sax during tutor group. I don't suppose you remember me as I joined the group the year you left. I was a very shy redhead who came in about two weeks after term started in September 1970. I was friends with Diane Nuttal and Karen Schemeld. Were you the chap who played the guitar? I'm still in touch with Karen - who is now teaching at Windsor school in JHQ!

Most will remember me for reasons I would rather forget – thankfully I’m all grown up now & just keep the “attitude” for special occasions! I lived at Wildenrath & hung around with Angie Sustins – Most of our time was spent avoiding lessons in a toilet cubical (classy chicks!) or hiding out down one of the tunnels! Oh the stories I could tell! I still speak to her every now & again & Angie Power contacted me a few years back – still get the odd smutty txt from her! Both are doing fine! I was in 3 PJM – & mind on folk like – Julia Jones, Ceri Whitley, Sean Cochran, both Angie’s obviously, Debbie Rogers & Gary Rowlinson to name but a few.
Sad to see the school looking the way it does – but the memories are still strong! I’d be interested to know what’s become of some of the staff – Mrs Unsworth, Mrs Whitley, and Mr Martin etc! Mr Martin confiscated nearly a full packet of Regal from me & he had his own ration card!!! – ahhh well – guess I deserved it – I was smoking in his tutor group cupboard at the time! Happy Days!

Hi Carolyn Aldridge! Yes you will find those on the LINKS page to external groups - along with many others. We know that this website is not the only one for ex-Kenties.

But we do hope you come back to this one!

I can't beleive I just found this site. It's fantastic!

Duncan White, you've stirred up some memories! I was a boarder at Deal, my father was at SHAPE and we lived in Liege, Belgium. Jason McKeown, Jason Thorpe, Alex Baggely. There's some blasts from the past! I was in Simon Bullstrode's Dorm for a while till we all got split up for being rowdy. Karen Lord got an honourable mention somewhere in the guest book too!

Sadly, most of the other names I remember are first names only - a Phil, a Geoff who was obsessed by punk music, a "Titch". I remember chasing prowlers across rooftops, stories of ghostly downed WWII airmen, an aborted Ouija Board experiment which - when we asked "Who's there?" we received the letters "HITL...".

The School memories are the ski trip, the Long Dark Corridor, the QARANC insignia painted on the ceiling of the school, the whole Gothic appearance of the place, travelling to school on the Blow Me Up Bus. Tonnes of memories. Shame to see the old place so dilapidated.

Give me a hoy if any of this jogs anyones memory's. If not, I'll continue to believe that it was all a bizarre dream!

(At Kent School from 1983 to 1985, academic years: Lwr6TH to Upp6TH)

There were four kids in our family and we all attended Kent school at some point in our lives, I had the dubious misfortune of attending Kent on two different occasions.

I was a day-bug at Kent for about a year in 1979-1980 and then again for the sixth form (lower and upper) 1983-1985.

My sister Sharon was at Kent from 1983 to 1986. My brother Richard was there from about 1978 to 1980 and my eldest brother Nick was there in the early 70's (about 1970 to 1973 I think).

We first lived at Geilenkirchen and then twice at Bruggen. The first tour at Bruggen we lived in Elmpt right next to the really sharp tight bend off the main road leading out of the village. The second tour we lived on camp, just up from the NAAFI.

I am glad that I could show people photos of Kent School via this web site because most didn't believe me when I spoke about it. Most civvies don't have the intense school experiences of us forces brats.

I remember sitting at the back of a class in the main block during some lesson in 1980 and chewing wads of paper then flicking the splatts onto the tall, tall ceilings with my ruler. When I went back to Kent in 1983 they were still there!!

I wish I could remember some of the names of the people that I hung around with during the sixth form (how rude of me). I do remember playing keyboards in our 'group' with Jim? on guitar and a girl did the vocals. We were forced by Mr. Payne, head of sixth, to play in an assembly. He introduced us as 'Kentski Beat' which wasn't the name of the group at all.

I do remember going on a geography field trip to the Harz mountains, the cellers of 'doom', putting chairs out onto the sixth form block roof in summer to sit on, sneaky fags where ever I could, the bendy bus trips to school and bottles of wine sneaked in for a cheeky drink ....

It all seems a lifetime away.

If anyone remembers me please get in contact.

Does anyone remember the Deans. There were 3 of them. Two boys and a girl. I think the youngest son was called Wayne. Also, the Moores. There was Tony and Christopher. There was also a sister and another younger brother. Can't remember their names. The Arnolds were Terry(Tereasa)and Lisa.We used to go iceskating every Saturday without fail in the winter, and swimming to Bradbury Barracks and Bocum, with our German pals. Had great fun.

Subject: RE: Old school mate "Paddy Breden" 1976 - 1979 ish The last time I saw Paddy was when i joined the Army, I was at Aldershot(basic training) I visited Paddy during training when he lived with his parents in Slough, Bucks. That was the last I saw or heard from him. I Know his parents(Maureen, "MO" and Alan) moved to London. His Dad Alan, A master chef in the Army got a job, after his Army career, in one of the Hotel kitchens at either Heathrow or Gatwick airport. He had 2 brothers Lee and ive forgot the other and 2 sisters Adrian and forgot the other. I heard he had various jobs. A tree specialist or doctor and working for a formula one or two in the pit stops. That was a long time ago. So since then Ive been trying to find him. Maybe he doesnt want to be found. Other names from Bracht are Briony Poulson, Liz Race, Allison Whitelegge, Martine Dean, Micheala Gavaghan, Julie sawyer, Nick Roadnight and Mike Emerton.Just to mention a few.So if anybody knows of any of the above whereabouts. Please let me know. I have been in contact with a few since school, Good ol friends reunited. Thanks, Dave :-)

I don't know where Angela is, but I hope that she finds this web site and gets in touch with us. Do you remember some of the girls in our group? I think there was a Susan or a Janet. She had bobbed blond hair and was quite slim. There was also Christine. She was a bit on the plump side, but was always cheery and game for a laugh. There were others, but I can't remember them yet. I didn't go on the ski-ing trip, but Kathy did. She went on about it for weeks, she also had a great time. I'll get her to put an entry on the web site soon.

I have wonderful memories of the time in my life when I lived in Wildenrath & attended Kent School with my twin brother & Sister Nick & Vicky. I have been lucky enough to remain in contact with Denise Boyland and Tony Izatt. I lost contact with Penny Wicks and Derek Jezzard. I noticed that Joan Summers left a few lines here some time ago. Tony & I tried once to tack down Dave & Pete Hayes with very little success. I have a scrap book with school photos and names etc. But can't put my hand to it just now. 'Kenties' that lived in Wildenrath; Jackie Fletcher, Janice Lees, Linda Lewis, Linda & Mike Hubbard (GSO). I have tried to find Loretta Collette who had a younger sister who also went to Kent. The ole grey matter is not what it was so my memory is not brilliant. I was rather keen on sports & swimming and did both of these for the school. Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd add a few names (teachers), I recently found an old school report that has not only jogged a few memories but also made me realise that I shouldn't be too hard on my own kids with their reports!!!
My form tutor was Mr Taylor, a very good teacher from what I can remember. The report is from Spring Term 1977 and I was in 4RT (Rochester House, Yellow).
Does anyone remember Mrs Barbara Stainsby? she taught English.
Her husband Paul Stainsby was my Maths teacher. Under the very watchful eyes of Miss/Mrs? Robinson I learnt to cook in Home Economics (in the Science block). In the same block we had the pleasure of "operating" on dead frogs and learning about Photosynthesis guided by Mr Maguire.
I was one of the first to take the "New" C.S.E in Physical Education, it meant 7 lessons of P.E. a week, (never again). I also ran for the school along with Andy White and Paul Blackhead in the 100M, 200M and 4x100M relay. One of my P.E. tutors was Mr Gibbs.
I'm sorry I don't remember alot of names but some do ring a bell.
My old man was stationed at Wegberg and we first lived in the flats at Erkelenz then we moved to a house in the village of Ellinghoven, about 2 miles away from Wegberg.
I remember swapping buses at "Queens" in Rheindalen and also going to the cinema and swimming pool in Rhein D.
I agree with you all, Kent was, out of the 12 or 13 schools I went to, the best. It is a shame that it has fallen into such a bad state of repair but the memories live on. If we all put in a Tenner we could maybe buy the the old place!
Well, that's all for now folks, don't want to bore you. If anyone from that era would like to get in touch, please feel free.
Auf Wiedersehen!
