loved the school, although didn't know it at the time! Spent most of time in trouble but grew up eventually! Remember, Max Young, Vicky Smith, Sally Bowen, Sue Williams, Kim Bruten, Jo Taylor, Gary Bremer, Morf, Paddy, Steve Webb, Steve Day, Hamish, Ned and so many more! Has anyone heard from Morf or Paddy? They are the only ones I have not heard from. Grew up mainly in Chatham house, and spent many nights stood in the glass corridor for misbehaving. Does anyone remember who the boys were that ran accross the roof in the middle of the night because we dared them, and they were caught! I was suspended for it as were Gary Bremer and Hamish but I can't remember who else was involved. Also, anyone heard from Serisha Teise?

I was at Kent 69-71 {I think] 2nd & 3rd year. I lived in Lilienthal str. MGladbach and went on the bus with Geoff Elliot and his sister, Laurence and Petra Kelly,Jimmy Armitidge and Jurgen Green. I was quiet and in awe of most of them. At school I was friends with Lynne Stuart, Eilean Waterman,Sheila Young (sister Shirley) Carol Heath, Deborah Samuelle.I played hockey for the house team and we won the cup.

Hi Folks,
Those that may remember me as I used to run the Deal Disco and Studio 2000 for a bit but also played in one of the school bands. I played in Science Friction, pretentious bunch of no hopers with even less talent!!! Andy Bates was the lead singer, Martin Minchin Bass, Yorrick Phoenix Keyboard, Tomas Del Rio Guitar, Alan on other guitar and me on drums, yes we were appalling whils the other band with Ramsey on drums, Phil on Guitar, Ions on Bass Alex singer and another on guitar whose name escapes me were very good.

Just wonder if by any chance anyone has photos of the above, reason being I am in a band and looking for historic photos for our website!!!

Also trying hard to rememeber some of the ladies, there was a young lady in lower 6th Chatham when I was in upper 6th and I am sure her name was Angela Sumner who originally hailed from Birmingham area, anyone any recollection. And also from Deal the sewing matron had a daughter called Linda who had left school but who I had special interests in!!!! Anyone recall names here would be appreciated.
Anyone else remember me, just say hello, recent events mean memories are important especially the good ones!

I can remember faces better than names, (I know won't help were all - much,my neighbour in Wilders (31 Heron Road) was Gordon Gillies, his brother was called Bruce. I remember a Caz and her pal Yvonne. Oh yeh, there was also Fish (red hair) with the sweet smile, who I fancied like hell....I also remember the tragadies of kent School, the girl who died after she feel out of the bunkbed. (or so I was told, I only saw the coroner in the morning infront of the dorms) and Meggan who died in the accident on that Hovercraft, I really liked her...and still think of her. Maybe someone remembers me...I used to use my Stepfarther's name (Vavasour) I use my maiden name since I was 16 (Schuhrk). I would find It great to hear from you folks, exchange a few stories from the kenti days. untill then Steffi (Steph)

You would be shocked if you saw Bangor Girls' High now! It is now known as Bangor Academy (mixed) and a completely new school has been built close to the original site - it is absolutely huge, accommodating approx. 1,600 pupils. It has its own swimming pool, fitness suite etc and I think it will be opening this September. There is an army of Poles working and living on the site, it would remind you of the T.V. series "Auf Weidersehn Pet"!!
Yes there is a very nice marina and coastal path where the Pickie Pool used to be. The walk you used to take from Bangor to Helen's Bay is also one of my favourites particularly on a Sunday afternoon. I was talking on the telephone last Saturday to a former Kent School English Teacher, Linda Butterworth,(might even be the last one out there, at least of our generation). Her husband Paul teaches in Windsor School (the old Queens School) at JHQ Rheindahlen. They are finishing this year. They actually feature on the photographs taken at the school during the 2006 former pupils' reunion. Also in the photograph is Father Bill Boyd (former Kent School Padre in our time) who recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Like myself he is a northern Irishman. He's still going strong working as a Padre on JHQ - amazing! I don't know what is going to become of the old Kent School building. I think somebody mentioned on the website that the Science Block had been acquired by a German developer for conversion into apartments but I'm not sure about that. I don't think anybody really knows - certainly when I spoke to Linda at the weekend she didn't seem to be too sure. She did say however that the visit to the school with the former pupils in 2006 was very upsetting both for herself and Bill Boyd - the school in such a dreadful state but so many happy memories - and that's the best way to remember it Heidi. You got a lot out of it and so did my wife and I. Germany was our first home and we both worked together in the school with some great people - both staff and pupils. For me the memories are also in technicolour and it provided us with a deep affection for Germany which has survived to the present. We visit the country at least once and sometimes two / three times a year, usually much further south in Bavaria. It is like a second home to us and that's something to be thankful for. The Kent School website is truly wonderful for us old Kenties and since contributing to it a number of my former pupils have contacted me -one of whom, David Brasier who was contemporary with you, maintains a very regular e-mail contact. For a former Kent Teacher that is really gratifying. Great to hear from you again.
Take good care and best wishes

Hi Terry.
I am happy to say that I went to Bangor Girl's High. I had a friend there and am glad to have chosen that school. It was friendly and I have some fond memories, but again nothing compares to K.S. I did have a brief spell in a dreadful school in Lisburn. this was a complete shock, having spent all of my life in Germany and Singapore! It really felt hostile, cold and grey. I always remember Germany as very colourful, warm in the summer and thick beautiful snow in the just seemed to rain constantly in N.I.
I had a lovely art teacher in Bangor, his name was Mr Irvine. He encouraged me in art. Thanks to him I went on to do a fine art degree in London. I met and married my husband who is a policeman. We have been together for nearly twenty years!
I am sorry that I don't remember your wife, although I remember science being one of my favorite subjects (along with art).
I only discovered this site a few days ago. I cried when I saw the photos of the neglected buildings.....very sad indeed. There really was something special about it. What is happening to it? Do you know? Does anyone know.
I hope there are some plans for it's restoration....I wonder.
I hear the old sea front in Bangor has changed and that there is a Marina. I used to walk a lot to Helen's Bay and Crawfordsburn Country park. I expect the old outdoor pool has gone. Was it called the Pickie Pool?
Best wishes Heidi

Well Heidi, it really is a very small world! Did you attend Bangor Girls' High or Glenlola Collegiate after your time in Kent School? I have to say that seeing the old place in its crumbling state is really sad and quite upsetting. I learned the better part of my trade in Kent School and so it will always have a strong place in my heart. I don't know if you remember my wife, (also from N. Ireland). She was a Lab Technician in the Kent School Science Department and later School Librarian (blonde and about 5ft 4ins). I was in Palace Barracks very recently for an Army Schools Challenge event. It hasn't changed too much over the years although the garrison strength is now at peace time levels - lots of troops going to Afghanistan & Iraq - I'm sure that you would have little difficulty finding your way around the place.
Good communicating with you.
Best wishes

Mark, I remember the day I started at Kent. I was terrified as I had just come from a very small ( by comprison Girls Grammer School) We were allowed ot "finish off" our old school uniforms - so there was me standing out like a sore thumb in Royal Blue! I'm just lucky my mother didn't make me wear the hat that went with it! You were sat on a dek "twnging" the guitar I did eventually get one and now twang away - I never did get to play like Suzi Quatro tho!My menory isn't that great on the names of some of our classmates - but I remember Theresa Baltrop, Linda Hewett (long hair and round orange framed glasses) and a girl called Elaine who's mother was German. There was a girl called Kim in our class too - always dressed in the hight of whatever the fashion of the day was. I was never allowed to so in common with most of the girls in our class used to roll up my skirt at the waist (and make sure I pulled it down before going home!)LOL

Yes, I remember old "Tookey", a very liberal guy.We had been studying Anglo-Saxon history, and the "Witan",or council, so he suggested that we form our own.Things soon descended into a complete shambles!Wouldn't go so far as "playing" the guitar, more dischordant twanging.

Most will remember me for reasons I would rather forget – thankfully I’m all grown up now & just keep the “attitude” for special occasions! I lived at Wildenrath & hung around with Angie Sustins – Most of our time was spent avoiding lessons in a toilet cubical (classy chicks!) or hiding out down one of the tunnels! Oh the stories I could tell! I still speak to her every now & again & Angie Power contacted me a few years back – still get the odd smutty txt from her! Both are doing fine! I was in 3 PJM – & mind on folk like – Julia Jones, Ceri Whitley, Sean Cochran, both Angie’s obviously, Debbie Rogers & Gary Rowlinson to name but a few.
Sad to see the school looking the way it does – but the memories are still strong! I’d be interested to know what’s become of some of the staff – Mrs Unsworth, Mrs Whitley, and Mr Martin etc! Mr Martin confiscated nearly a full packet of Regal from me & he had his own ration card!!! – ahhh well – guess I deserved it – I was smoking in his tutor group cupboard at the time! Happy Days!

I can't beleive I just found this site. It's fantastic!

Duncan White, you've stirred up some memories! I was a boarder at Deal, my father was at SHAPE and we lived in Liege, Belgium. Jason McKeown, Jason Thorpe, Alex Baggely. There's some blasts from the past! I was in Simon Bullstrode's Dorm for a while till we all got split up for being rowdy. Karen Lord got an honourable mention somewhere in the guest book too!

Sadly, most of the other names I remember are first names only - a Phil, a Geoff who was obsessed by punk music, a "Titch". I remember chasing prowlers across rooftops, stories of ghostly downed WWII airmen, an aborted Ouija Board experiment which - when we asked "Who's there?" we received the letters "HITL...".

The School memories are the ski trip, the Long Dark Corridor, the QARANC insignia painted on the ceiling of the school, the whole Gothic appearance of the place, travelling to school on the Blow Me Up Bus. Tonnes of memories. Shame to see the old place so dilapidated.

Give me a hoy if any of this jogs anyones memory's. If not, I'll continue to believe that it was all a bizarre dream!

There were four kids in our family and we all attended Kent school at some point in our lives, I had the dubious misfortune of attending Kent on two different occasions.

I was a day-bug at Kent for about a year in 1979-1980 and then again for the sixth form (lower and upper) 1983-1985.

My sister Sharon was at Kent from 1983 to 1986. My brother Richard was there from about 1978 to 1980 and my eldest brother Nick was there in the early 70's (about 1970 to 1973 I think).

We first lived at Geilenkirchen and then twice at Bruggen. The first tour at Bruggen we lived in Elmpt right next to the really sharp tight bend off the main road leading out of the village. The second tour we lived on camp, just up from the NAAFI.

I am glad that I could show people photos of Kent School via this web site because most didn't believe me when I spoke about it. Most civvies don't have the intense school experiences of us forces brats.

I remember sitting at the back of a class in the main block during some lesson in 1980 and chewing wads of paper then flicking the splatts onto the tall, tall ceilings with my ruler. When I went back to Kent in 1983 they were still there!!

I wish I could remember some of the names of the people that I hung around with during the sixth form (how rude of me). I do remember playing keyboards in our 'group' with Jim? on guitar and a girl did the vocals. We were forced by Mr. Payne, head of sixth, to play in an assembly. He introduced us as 'Kentski Beat' which wasn't the name of the group at all.

I do remember going on a geography field trip to the Harz mountains, the cellers of 'doom', putting chairs out onto the sixth form block roof in summer to sit on, sneaky fags where ever I could, the bendy bus trips to school and bottles of wine sneaked in for a cheeky drink ....

It all seems a lifetime away.

If anyone remembers me please get in contact.

My brother (Chris) has just called me after coming across this site and seeing my name mentioned. We both went to Kent at slightly different times. I have whizzed through the guest book and recognise a few names. Was good mates with Leona Cousins, Elaine Harvey, Alistair Smith and Andy Leech. If anyone remembers me, mail me, would love to catch up. It really was the "good ole days" when I was there.

Went to both the Minehead and Skegness reunions along with the Swindon do last year (I think it was - platinum moment). Have pencilled in Wales '09 -yippee

Say hi if you'd like too :)

Hi Dave

You've got the wrong person I'm afraid and I don't have any younger siblings. You may know me from Bruggen Youth Club if that is where you went otherwise I'm at a loss. Anyways always nice to meet a fellow Kentie - see you at the next reunions perhaps! Cheers

Andy went to kings and Lloyd also to kent. The bus escort was a Mrs Ingham. We never used to go to the pics but bimble around the NAAFI.My Dad had enough of my Bracht antics so he sent me to boarding school in wales ("Llanfairpg" ish for short)A naval trg colledge for my last school year.
