It is great to discover this site for ex Kent School pupils. I have fond memories of my time at Kent School, I was in Rochester House. I was well into sport and played for a number of sports teams at the school. I boarded at Deal House - great days full of stupid antics. I have often reminiced with my family of the midnight walks and unauthorised visits to Chatham House and the school discos on Saturday nights all good fun. Does anyone remember playing snooker while we supposed to be doing prep?

I have just discovered this wonderful website and it has opened an avalanche of memories for me. I agree with all the comments: Kent was a wonderful school with serious academic credentials. Mr Ions was the Head of School and Mr Whitley the Head of 6th. I remember Mr McNulty, who seems to be a regular contributor to these pages, very well; after all, I read History A with him and Mr Martin who had the most amazing Rolling Stone record collection. Mr Napp tought economics and was also our rugby coach. I really enjoyed those rugby outings; especially the sevens tournaments. I would very much like to know where Denise and Yvonne Mestrum, Kate Weeks, Moira Gallagher, Pam Le Carpentier and "Joe Cool" are these days. Please drop me a line. I also remember mr Farqhuar(?) very well; probably the best Maths teacher I ever had.

We lived in Willich, where my father was serving with the Royal Engineers. I went to Krefeld School (60-63) and then Kent from when it opened in '63 until posting back to UK in Nov '65. Mr Ford was the Head, Mr Myhill the deputy, Mr J A Davies my form master. Mr Worrall taught us French and German, Mr Cork, maths. I remember the efforts we put in digging the long jump pit - probably much to the delight of Mr Lacklison! I visited Kent in 1977 when having joined the army I was serving in Germany - must have been a couple of years before it closed. Many fond memories of the old place. It's good to see that some of the early vintage are posting and clearly still going strong. If there's anyone from those days out there do please get in touch.

Also like to know what happened to Chris Holland? I recall that he had an older sister.

Hi fellow scholars, just happened upon this site by chance and it was certainly interesting reading some of the comments. I must be getting ancient, because hardly anyone on this site went to Kent in the period I did. I seem to remember the Headmaster being called Mr Williams, deputy head Mr Myhill, who had a daughter Safron (I was mad about Safron)and Miss Attack and Mr Davis, who loved to tell us of the time he bombed Koeln in the war. I had a girlfriend called Sandra (Sandy) Walker for a lot of the time but we lost contact when she moved to Catterick in 1967. My dad was stationed at Willich serving with the Royal Engineers and everyday our little green army bus would trundle to Hostert (as we sang "we all live in a green army bus"). When I attended Kent School a lot of the old buildings were out of bounds, which made me and a few of my mates all the more determined to find out the grizzly secrets of the place and we were often caned for being caught "out of Bounds", including sneaking over to the old farm for a snog in the breaktimes. For some reason I cannot remember a single name of anyone in my class ... hmm shame on me, but it was 44 years ago. I was in Rochester house (The good old yellows) and I remember me and my house winning the cross country championships just before I left in 1968. Apparently just after I left the place was turned on it's head with a swimming pool and gymnasium being built and shortly after that it was turned into a boarding school. Been back through Hostert a few times since I left in 1968 but the last time in 2001 the place was dead and deserted ... all that remain are memories.

My mum was a really strict bus monitor, she's mellowed with age though. We lived at Wildenrath.
I remember a ??? school play called The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew. The tuck shop selling Smilies. Ring any bells anyone?

Amazing the things you find when you are bored. Went to Brompton Primary and Sir Joseph Williamsons Math School.

Just trawled through the messages. Hi Chris Andrews! Yes, my uncle was the drummer for the Sweet, sadly died (leukaemia) February 2002.I also remember Michael and Stephen Coulson, John Tomney and Penny Andrews.Julian Hingley appears to be the headmaster of an English school in Bucharest:I say appears,if you knew him, check out their website (google english school bucharest), the photo certainly looks like him.If you're trying to track down old mates, there are quite a few ex pads brats on ARRSE.PERSEC rules, so you will only know who they are if they want you to.
All the best
Mark
